Event Description: The Business Council of Alabama is hosting its 32nd annual BCA Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC) at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Alabama. BCA will pay for the cost of public officials/employees and their spouses to attend the GAC. This includes waiving the conference registration fee, providing lodging for up to two nights, and participation in conference events and activities. On Friday, the BCA board of directors and various BCA policy committees will hold meetings during the day. That evening, BCA will host an outdoor reception and dinner at the hotel with a buffet style meal and family friendly activities. Saturday will begin with breakfast at the hotel followed by numerous informational sessions. The first will include a bipartisan panel of state legislative leaders from the House and Senate focusing on key issues facing Alabama. Afterwards, a federal panel consisting of all participating Congressional Offices from the Alabama delegation will provide an update on federal issues that are important to the state. Following these panels, there will be a number of breakout sessions on issues related to prison reform, economic growth in Alabama (including federal opportunity zones, economic development, and workforce development), rural healthcare/Medicaid challenges, and the 2020 census among other topics. After the conclusion of these sessions, attendees may choose from one of two social activities on the agenda where they can interact with other registered attendees in a more informal setting. One such event will be held at the hotel pool and the other will be a golf tournament held at the course adjacent to the hotel. On Saturday evening, the conference will conclude with a reception that will feature remarks by Governor Kay lvey regarding the state's recent success with public infrastructure funding. Some of the conference events referenced above are sponsored by BCA members. As noted above, BCA intends to waive the registration fee and pay for the lodging costs to facilitate the attendance of public officials/employees at the conference. The hotel costs $266 per night (plus $ 15.96 in taxes and $39.66 in fees), and the conference registration fee is $600 per attendee ($300 for spouses).
