Purpose/Event:
The Alabama Association for Justice will be holding its 2018 Annual Convention at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, FL. The conference is organized around a formal program or agenda of educational or information sessions, panel discussions with questions and answers and/or other presentations concerning legal issues of interest to members of the Alabama Association for Justice. United States Senator Doug Jones will speak on the topic of Words that Work. Justice Mike Bolin of the Alabama Supreme Court will speak on Appellate Briefs, Judge Roman Shaul, who presently serves as Circuit Court Judge for Alabama's 15th Judicial Circuit, but who will soon resign to become General Counsel of the Alabama State Bar will make an Ethics presentation. Assistant Attorney General Noel Barnes will speak on the Alabama Data Breach Notification Act of 2018. President-Elect of the Alabama State Bar Christy Crow, who is a long time member of ALAJ, and State Bar Executive Director Phillip McCallum will speak together on How ALAJ and the Alabama State Bar Remain Relevant in these Times. Each of these program participants will be offered a hotel room for one night. In addition to CLE programs, the annual meeting includes two receptions, four breaks at which snacks, sodas, and coffee will be served and an Alabama Civil Justice Foundation sponsored beach party. All attendees are welcome to participate in all of these events. *Don't forget reporting requirements under 36-25-19, if applicable.
