Purpose/Event:
The Alabama Leaders in Educational Technology is hosting its Fall Symposium in Orange Beach, AL, Sunday, September 19th -Wednesday, September 22nd, 2021. The ALET Fall Symposium is a professional learning experience that includes meaningful participation with experts in the field of educational technology and cybersecurity. The event is being attended by technology directors and staff members of Alabama public schools. This event will include multiple sessions on school system cybersecurity, educational technology, and data management. The following legislators have been invited: Alan Baker, Terri Collins, Barbara Drummond, David Faulkner, and Danny Garrett. Representatives Baker, Collins, Drummond, and Faulkner examined the state of cybersecurity on behalf of the House Ways & Means Committee last year. They will be presented with awards for their leadership in studying this critical need. In addition, they will make a presentation regarding the role technology staff played in supporting remote learning in response to COVID. Attending the conference will allow these Representatives to learn more about how cybercriminals target school systems and what schools need in order to combat these threats. ALSDE Deputy Superintendent Andy Craig has also been invited in order to learn more about data security and how funding is being applied to this area. Complimentary hotel rooms and conference meals will be provided for attending legislators and Mr. Craig.
